News 4/14/12 News from Strictly Sailing Pacific, Jack London Square, Oakland CA
The show started on Thursday with rain and wind. By Friday the rain left us but the wind stayed through most of the day. Enough about weather.
The crowds have been modest with a lot of action at the booth. Casual passers by, Show attendees, and show vendors seemed to be very engaged. There were fewer boats in the show than last year. Electric Yachts and Annapolis Marine are the only electric propulsion vendors this year. There were also fewer diesel vendors which is the result of the smaller nature of the show.
Visits to several boatyards have been rewarding and we are developing contacts in the SF Bay area to help prospective clients support their conversions. We will post pictures shortly
3/2/12 The new year has been very active as we respond to the many requests for information about products. We are all aware of the slow movement of the economy out of a serious recession and are now seeing the additional signs of business growth.
We have started a blog for Electric Yachts of Southern California: http://electricyachtsocal.blogspot.com/
Joining our fleet of electric sailboats are a Yamaha 28, Catalina 30, and Morgan 41. I am still very much impressed in the varied nature of our EY sailors. Within the 16 installations I have worked with, there is no one type of sailor and no one type of dream.
Technology Alert
A new and promising very large battery storage technology has created a great deal of attention. Researcher at MIT have moved from the micro development to the beginning of large scale proof and construction of batteries that will enable storage of energy on a large scale.
